old town
I took a walk today, which might not have been the brightest idea, since the bottle of water I was carrying froze solid during my wandering. But I got to see Warsaw's splendid old town, which, amazingly, is a complete reconstruction. (The original was blown to pieces by the Nazis after they subdued the Warsaw uprising in 1944). The Soviets reconstructed the entire city based on historical plans, and they did such a good job that the "new" Old Town became a UNESCO world heritage site!
