that's so kiev!

I once read an article about the "That's So Berkeley!" parade, which alas, I never witnessed in person. It featured scenes like grade-schoolers in Che shirts waving Amnesty International petitions signed by all the residents of their commune as their beaming two mommies lit up joints nearby.

This morning, I saw something that made me think: "That's so Kiev!"

I'm walking to the metro at 8:30am. A well-dressed middle aged woman sets down her purse on a ledge where a stray dog is sitting. From the purse, she pulls out two bones with some meat still attached and gives them to the dog.

Who carries bones in their purse? Were they the remains of her breakfast? Was she taking them to her own dog? Or are they something she keeps "just in case?" I will never get this place.
